2014 RECALL for All SureLock II Rubber Weight Pocket Handles
Aqua Lung is conducting a voluntary recall of all SureLock II rubber weight pocket handles. SureLock II is the mechanical weight release system found on most Aqua Lung buoyancy compensators (BCs) beginning in 2009. Whether you have an original rubber handle or one of the revised rubber handles from the previous recall, Aqua Lung would now like to replace it with the latest generation handle, p/n 12396. Aqua Lung is concerned about the life expectancy of both models of rubber handles. A failure may occur due to separation of the rubber, cracking, tearing or breaking. If this were to occur during a dive, the weight pocket would be left engaged inside the BC. While there are no known occurrences of this happening underwater, and there have not been any reported injuries, Aqua Lung believes that a recall is the safe and prudent thing to do. The newest generation of handle does not rely upon rubber and is considered much stronger and safer.
Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using their BCs with Sure Lock II rubber weight pocket handles. Bring the pockets to Bluewater Scuba, and we will be able to replace your handles for you while you wait, as changing handles is a quick process. The replacement is made under warranty and you will not incur any charges.
This recall is being conducted in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Repair/Service Policy:
Bluewater Scuba is certified to repair or perform warranty service on popular brands of scuba equipment. Warranty service can only be done based on the customer’s evidence of a valid warranty. This evidence varies by manufacturer but usually requires purchase from an authorized dealer and evidence of annual service such as a receipt from an authorized service center. All customers who purchased their equipment from this facility have computer records here that can verify their warranty status. All other customers must provide proof of warranty status.
Warranty service parts are provided at no extra charge. The customer still has to pay for the labor. Some special parts may be provided for free by the manufacturer but shipping fees may still apply. Bluewater Scuba will strive to complete the service within two weeks on any brand that we stock parts for. However, sometimes parts are out of stock or may require special ordering and this may delay service turnaround times.
All other specially ordered parts will require a minimum of three weeks to complete service. Some brands or older models may have limited parts availability and may require additional time. Rush service may or may not be possible due to parts availability but if possible, it will cost an additional 50% of the labor charges. Rush service may require expedited shipping charges on specially ordered parts.
Bluewater Scuba will contact the customer by e-mail or phone upon completion of service. Equipment left beyond 14 days after notification will be charged a storage fee of $20/week unless other arrangements are made.
